Razer Abyssus Essential, Product Overview
Razer Abyssus Essential is a good getting started gaming mouse. It was my first gaming mouse back to 2012 when I was playing Starcraft2. Lots of players use it to play FPS games, such as CS, SF, etc. The weight of the mouse is only 78g, and it uses the Omron d2fc-f-7n(10m) as switches. Now it has the RGB light and the bottom light strip which uses PMW3339 as reading head. The advantages to use this mouse is that the lightweight and the high DPI, so it needs a shorter distance of wrist moving. And, this is the reason why lots of players use it to play FPS games. The shape of the mouse is also appropriate for different using habits. Razer also provides software Synapse 3 to let players set up the little adjustment for players’ habits. Let’s review and check several aspects of Razer Abyssus Essential.
Light Gaming Mouse, But without Honeycomb
Currently, there are several light gaming mice such as Hati and MM710, etc. However, the exterior has the design of honeycomb, which may be not used to someone who prefers the standard and plain-looking gaming mouse. In the other aspect, the Razer Abyssus Essential only has three buttons, so the devices in the mouse do not exist and the weight can be lighter.
The surface of the honeycomb light gaming mouse has the hole and roughness, and the dust also can be accumulated and stack in the IC board of the mouse. Even the hardness and the structure of the mouse become weaker, and this character may become a disaster when the mouse pressed by something pretty heavy. The light gaming mice are also pretty good as a gaming mouse, and the real character that matters is looking if fitting the player.
Story of the Razer Abyssus and Me, Cheap vs Quality?
There are lots of League of Legend players using Razer Abyssus Essential as their mouse for the game, because the player only needs to move a little distance, as 7200 high DPI, with less effort for the lightweight. It is easy to drive into the game totally, even when the player uses the mouse in a long period.
When the first time I bought the Razer Abyssus, I had two computers in different places and want to buy a cheaper mouse comparing to the standard gaming mouse, such as Razer DeathAdder v2. However, I did not expect the mouse to have high-quality performance, but its lightweight, and the moving ability impressed me a lot. I used to play Starcraft2, and SC2 also need a lot of moving like click or framing the units of the army. Besides, this is important to put the force field in the right place as playing Protoss.
There is a point that can be considered is that the price is proportional to performance in general. It is just a kind of emotion that if I spend more money on a product, I should get better user experience. But I could use Razer Abyssus to do the gaming strategy that I could think of. So, most of the time I played Starcraft2, I used the mouse.
Then, I start to just need to complete my other office works, so I started to use Razer DeathAdder as my job using. And I could focus on other things without using Abyssus. Just a habit that can be deeply influent by using a gaming mouse.
The Switch(es), Optical Sensor and Other Devices
Why are these so important? Just as I mentioned in my previous article, How to choose a mouse, the DPI, and the other abilities of the mouse could affect the wrist moving distance and the moving stability. Those characters could deeply reflect on the gaming performance, so the gaming mouse better has the higher DPI and the stable click lifetime that could give players the best output performance.
Razer Abyssus Essential uses the switch device, PixArt PMW 3330, rather than PM3325, and the PixArt PMW 3330 is similar to SS TrueMove1. PixArt PMW 3330 also has a higher DPI compared to PM3325, and the other functional abilities also have a better performance. Besides the sensor, Razer Abyssus Essential uses D2FC-F7N (10M) as its switch(es), and the life could be 10,000,000 click times as the 10M meaning.
In the software Razer Synapse 3, five DPI settings could be chosen and set up for players’ habits. Here is the little one disadvantage is that the DPI could be only set up by the software. By the way, the Razer Abyssus Essential uses the Kailh Encoder as the scroller device, the scribe feedback will not be too heavy. It will be comfortable to use it in the long term. By the way, the line between the click button is deep, and it can have the same performance just like the ordinary separate button device. The design of the line of the button makes the shape plain and good looking.
We could compare the mouse with the other similar ones, like Logitech G304, Razer Atheris, and ASUS ROG SICA. The aspects include the shape, switch(es), weight, size, DPI, button design, and the scrolling button, etc. As the sizes listed below, we could found the sizes are almost the same, and the size of Razer Abyssus Essential is just in the medium. Besides, it has the lightest weight, 78g, which is the lightweight that great to play games that need a lot of micro-operation.
Finally, we could also use Razer Synapse 3 to check the mouse pad and the appropriate setting for the specific matches, which is customized by players.
Based on these aspects, Razer Abyssus Essential is at the balance position of price and ability.
